Small Town Quilters Club

SMALL TOWN QUILTERS   July 10 2017

I am going to hold our first SMALL TOWN QUILTERS meeting on august 14, 2017. it will be at the Conway NH library in the Ham room. It will start at 10:30 am and last about an hour. We'll set up some guidelines. This will be a club not a guild. Bring your questions and thoughts about how our club should be run. your imput is wanted!

This is my latest quilt. it's made from Brooks Brothers Suit samples and is mostly wool. it's really gorgeous to see and so masculine! i have no idea if it will need to be dry cleaned or not. i had to steam each piece heavily to get the seams to lay flat and it didn't shrink then. my son Andrew has a friend who is a buyer for brooks brothers and she gives me the samples from the year. this is the 3rd quilt I've made out of these samples. Below is my 2nd quilts called Brooks Brothers Redux and made out of shirt samples. it's my favorite!

i couldn't decided how to quilt this and my cousin Nancy was visiting and looked at my design wall and picked this quilting out. perfect for this i think! the first quilt i made out of the samples was a pattern i'd been wanting to try out with some old jeans that needed to be thrown away. it was fun to make, although i would have placed the black jeans squares a little more strategically. it's a great picnic and drag around quilt. once you were done sewing the circles together you were done! i liked that too! i just realized that i have no label or name for this quilt! i will do that today!

Labeling your quilt is very important. the longer you are quilting, the more important the labels are. I've been quilting for 20 years now and I've been shocked when i look at one of my labels to find i made it not 5 years ago but 10 and hasn't my quilting improved! you never know where your quilts will end up and a label gives it value and history. i mostly make simple labels with the quilt's name, my name, date and where i was living when i made it. i also add that I've machine pieced and quilted it myself and it is machine washable and dryable. If its for someone that goes on the label also.

I hope you join me! Bring your ideas and any quilts you'd like to show for show and tell. that's august 14 (Monday) at 1030 am at the Ham room in the Conway NH library.
Quiltingly yours,
